DEAN
MOON
The infamous "MOON logo is more than a half-century old,
if you have been exposed at all to the world of street-rodding
and racing you are probably familiar with it. If you know
what the logo stands for than you must be familiar with its
creator, Dean Moon "An Original Innovator".
As an
teenage growing up in the 40's Dean's passion was for cars,
he wasn't content leaving them alone and was always looking
for ways to make them faster. The very first products sold
by Moon was a cast aluminum fuel block that Dean actually
created in high school shop class.

Dean's
parents owned a small cafe in Santa Fe Springs, California
called "MOON Cafe" and it was from a small garage
out back that the most famous company in hot-rodding was born.
Dean's products and innovations become instantly popular with
racers and hot-rodders in Southern California. He took the
money he was making and put it right back into developing
new products, he soon out grew that small garage and moved
his company to the location where it is still today.
Many
of Dean's innovations are renowned to racing and hot-rodding.
Moon spun aluminum wheel discs are still widely used on dry
lake and land speed cars. You can find Moon aluminum fuel
tanks and oil tanks on many today's drag cars and boats. If
you've ever admired the hot rods, street rods, and customs
that fill the pages of your favorite magazine and fill the
halls of the biggest car shows, then you've seen Moon "no-name"
finned aluminum valve covers. Moon gauges and many other products
created by Dean Moon. .
Dean
became heavily involved in motorsports to showcase his products.
he built several famous cars including; the "Moonbeam",
a Devin-bodied sports car powered by a V8 Chevy with a Potvin
front mounted blower. The "Moon Jocko Streamliner"
the sleekest most eye-catching car to hit the salt-flats.
The most famous was the "Mooneyes Dragster" which
now rests in the Don Garlits Drag Racing Museum in Florida
Dean
had association with many of the legends in the industry including
Vic Edelbrook, Ed Iskederian, Don Garlits, Clay Smith, Micky
Tompson, George Barris, and Ed "Big Daddy" Roth
to name a few. It was Dean's relationship with Carroll Shelby
that brought Shelby to the Moon facility to construct the
very first "Shelby Cobra" which rolled out of the
Moon machine shop in 1962. Dean also served as an original
board member and past president of SEMA, the Specialty Equipment
Marketing Association.
Dean
passed away June 4th of 1987, not only was it a shock to his
family and friends but it was a great loss to the industry
as we had lost one of our founders.
Everyone
will always remember Dean as a true legend of our time and
the company that he created now lives as "MOONEYES".
Continuing in the tradition, MOONEYES will bring quality and
innovations for years to come, look for the Moon logo and
accept only he best.
GO!
