Whipple Superchargers is owned and operated by it’s founder Art Whipple and is located in Fresno, CA. Founder and president Art Whipple has always been regarded as a true innovator and enjoyed a very successful racing career as crew chief and owner of Top Fuel Funny Cars and Dragsters, as well as many other forms of racing such as circle and drag boats.

While owning and tuning the famed Revelloution Top Fuel Funny Car, Art and driver Ed “The Ace” McCulloch won the 1970 NHRA US Nationals and NHRA 1971 Winter Nationals. Art later retired from racing to start a family but quickly found himself again tuning for his father in-law, Ed Wills which fielded Top Fuel Funny Cars and Top Fuel Hydro boats under the famed “Mr. Ed” and “Whipple & Mr. Ed” banners.

In 1987, Art Whipple got the performance bug again and decided to get back into the performance industry with some new technology. After countless hours of research, Art found a company located in Australia named Sprintex. Whipple quickly adapted their unique “twin-screw” supercharger to his own personal 1988 Chevrolet Silverado. Within a few months, Whipple Superchargers became the exclusive distributor of the Sprintex Supercharger.

In 1991, Whipple Superchargers found a Swedish company named Opcon Autorotor. Until this time, Sprintex was the only manufacturer of the twin-screw type supercharger, but Autorotor, a sister company of the pioneering company Svenska Rotor Maskiner (SRM) had a larger variety of sizes to choose from and later generation rotor technology. By this time, the screw compressor had become commonly known as the “Whipple Charger” and quickly became a must have item for performance enthusiasts.

After Autorotor and SRM split, Whipple decided to stay with SRM and their newly formed company Lysholm Technologies. This relationship worked out very well and led to many successful twin-screw applications. With the partnership of Eaton Corporation, the Lysholm compressor made tremendous strides in dependability and performance. In 2004, the Lysholm/Eaton screw compressor was utilized on the Ford GT super car and Mercury Racing High Performance engines, a first for Lysholm.

With Whipple Superchargers extensive knowledge, technology and years of experience, Whipple developed an entirely new supercharger lineup that featured all of the latest technology in rotor profile, housing, rotor coating and bearing design to once again, revolutionize the twin-screw supercharger market. As the pioneer of the screw compressor market, Whipple’s dedication to innovative thinking, hard work, attention to detail and outstanding product performance has led to a better, American made product for the performance industry.

Ed McCulloch's "Whipple & McCulloch"
There may not be a more versatile individual in the sport of drag racing than Ed McCulloch. Today, Ed is primarily known as the crew chief for Don Prudhomme's "Skoal" Chevrolet that is driven by Ron Capps. Prior to that he was part of the great McDonald's team that dominated the fuel classes in the early and mid 1990's. Before that he drove some of the most feared Funny Cars in the sport, some of which he owned and others that he drove for a variety of different people. But regardless of who's name was on the registration, there was one thing that you could always count on and that was that Ed McCulloch would be a winner. With six NHRA U.S. National's titles to his credit, the man they call "Ace" has visited the Indy winner's circle more than just about any other driver, and he's been there in both a Top Fuel Car and in a Funny Car, and he's been there in three different decades, and not many drivers can make either of those statements.

Ed's first, and maybe his most emotional Indy win, came in 1971 while he was driving the famed "Whipple and McCulloch" car that was owned by his good friend, Art Whipple. The win was extra special because it came just one year after a towing accident saw the team's first car burn to the ground on the way to the Nationals. Deprived of the opportunity to compete the year before, Ed and Art more than made up for it with one of the most dominating performances in Indy history, including a string of 6.60 elapsed times that left everyone in their wake, including Sammy Miller, "Big" Jim Dunn, Connie Kalitta and Dale Pulde. Dale, who was driving one of the Mickey Thompson cars, had the best seat in the house in the finals to watch the "Ace" win the first NHRA national event of his career, and what a perfect place to do it!
